Symbolism
Christ has come into a market where a woman's basket has broken causing her food to fall on the ground. He bends down to pick them up for her. A young boy sees Christ's example and quickly bends down to help her. In the corner; a man silently watches what Christ is doing. Will he follow Christ's example or will he feel it is beneath himself to bend down to help a woman?
About
A member of the LDS temple committee asked me to create and submit a painting for consideration to hang in one of their temples. Along with a handful of male artists, I was invited to visit a movie set of Jerusalem to take photos to prepare for the project.
Dignity is an oil painting that was born from my need to speak to how Christ viewed and treated women. I never submitted it to the temple committee. It hung in the Springville Museum of Art in 2016.
Dignity was created using a combination of the Flemish and Venetian techniques of oil painting.
